Lafogido Heritage

Heritage

Our history, our heritage...

The Lafogido Heritage Festival 2024 commemorates the 30th memorial of one of our forefathers, the Late Prince Ademakinwa Ademiluyi (Mackay), who passed away 30 years ago. Prince Mackay was the grandson of Oba Ademiluyi Ajagun Lawarikan I, the 48th Ooni of Ile-Ife (1910–1930), and a great-grandson of Oba Otutubiosun, the 31st Ooni. Oba Otutubiosun was the second son of Oba Lafogido, the 10th Ooni of Ile-Ife. Prince Mackay belonged to the Otutu lineage of the Lafogido Ruling House of Ile-Ife.

The Lafogido Heritage Foundation is proud to host the inaugural Lafogido Heritage Festival on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Layade Junction off Otutu Road, Ile-Ife. This event will celebrate and showcase the Lafogido Family and the Ile-Ife community to the world.

This year’s festival will feature a variety of competitions in art, food, hairstyling, and more, involving community members and schoolchildren. These activities will highlight the cultural heritage of the Lafogido Ruling House, promoting unity and appreciation for our traditions.

  • Refurbishment of the community borehole to provide clean water.
  • Distribution of proper school uniforms to local schools.
  • Plans to renovate school classrooms, provide computers, and build vocational training centers for children to learn arts, crafts, and traditional musical instruments.

The Lafogido Heritage Foundation aims to:

  • Unify descendants with their cultural roots.
  • Revive and preserve traditional festivities unique to our heritage.
  • Promote cultural tourism in Osun State and across Africa.
  • Help descendants connect with their traditional, cultural, and historical identities.

We firmly believe that our cultural heritage holds solutions to many contemporary challenges and provides a foundation for growth and unity in today’s world. The Lafogido Heritage Festival is a celebration of these values and an invitation to explore the richness of Ile-Ife’s traditions.
